“A fascinating novel” is Australian philosopher John Young’s assessment of A Distant Prospect.
After he attended Annette’s recent book club event in Melbourne, Thomistic philosophy lecturer John Young generously wrote a full-page review of A Distant Prospect that has just appeared in News Weekly magazine’s 30th July 2016 edition, for print subscribers and online at http://newsweekly.com.au/article.php?id=57389
Thomism’s philosophical approach is to describe reality by making distinctions, thus John writes:
“Unlike so many novels today, A Distant Prospect has no coarse language or sexual scenes: it is realistic without being offensive. Nor is it negative about religion: it presents the differing views of the characters, and without any embarrassment lets us see that Lucy’s father is a fervent Catholic, attending Mass and praying the Rosary. …”
“The book does not push a particular philosophical or religious view of life, but goodness, beauty and other spiritual qualities are evident as the characters come to terms with their difficulties and struggles.
This is a book that will appeal to a wide range of readers, from early teenagers onwards.”
John’s full review may be read by subscribing to News Weekly (for as little as $20 for the first year), at http://newsweekly.com.au/subscribe.php
