Leech gathering, or author’s daily update

To give myself some encouragement, I am writing a daily update on progress on the sequel so far.

By Violence Unavenged, Volume One of In the Hearts of Kings, is nearing completion. I started this novel in the middle, worked to the end, tackled the beginning, and then worked back and forth between the three parts (and wrote some of Volumes Two and Three in the meantime). Now I’m on the fourth draft of Volume One, Part One.

Getting the narrative right has been a challenge. I have decided to use what might be called a telescopic first person narrator – in which the story teller stands some temporal distance from the events recounted, but recounts happenings from the first-person perspective at the time of the occurrence, which might also include remembered experience, and occasionally shifts focus, in and out, from one temporal viewpoint to the other, but always in first person.
Today: reformatted the contents of Part One, determined chapter headings, and clarified parts of the action in relation to ‘A Distant Prospect’.

Hearts of Kings is a sequel, but it has developed a life of its own.
